Next-Gen battery

Rechargeable lithium metal batteries are currently attracting significant attention because of their potential to overcome the theoretical energy density limitations of Li-ion batteries by replacing graphite anodes with lithium metal or silicon, which exhibits ten times higher specific capacity. However, Lithium metal batteries have various issues which cause safety problems like dendrite formation at the surface.

Meanwhile Silicon anodes have significant challenges due to large volume change.

Many research of our group are showing the performance improvement of lithium metal and silicon anode through surface modification and structural design by protecting Li metal and controlling volume change of Si.
